That was one ugly game by ND...

well, the first half was ugly. The second half, it seemed hard to screw up. And they didn't. Big play early by the defense put the game mostly away. Then in a seemingly bastard move, the Robot Genius went for the fake punt on about 4th and 3 from the PSU 40-something. It worked, got ND down to the PSU 4, from whence they eventually scored. And that pretty much was the end of the game. But still, how ND went into the half up 20-0 is a bit of a mystery. It seemed like every running play PSU had went for 5-8 yards. Morelli threw something like one incomplete pass in the half. Oddly enough, I'm more upset/worried about the season now than I was last week after the 14-10 win over GT. And ND won by 24. And at one point held a 38 point lead. Maybe I'm just nuts. More commentary on this game and others and the world of college football in general when the beer wears off.

You're not imagining things. We moved the ball rather well at times, but always found a way to screw it up. One fumble, a bad clipping penalty, a botched field goal. Hell, we were still in the game at 13-0 before the ND drive at the end of the half. At that point, PSU's defense played the most passive, shitty defense possible. A bad quarterback can pick apart a good defense if he has 10 second to throw and absolutely no reason to take his eyes off his receivers.

At 13-0, we're still in the game at halftime. At 20-0, it was an entirely different story. Then came the awful Derrick Williams drop on 2nd down, followed by the fateful option play resulting in the ND defensive touchdown. And that was really it. It just got completely out of hand after that.

I live-blogged it over at RUTS, although I totally gave up after the third quarter.
